Financial Training Solutions was founded by Tim Davies and Colin Froneman.
Level I CFA® Program training at FTS is conducted by Tim Davies, CFA. Tim also lectures five Level II topics. Tim has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, is a Certified Associate of the Institute of Bankers (CAIB SA), and is a CFA charterholder. Tim is the co-founder and a partner of Financial Training Solutions in Johannesburg, where he conducts financial training and CFA Program courses. Apart from academia, he has experience in banking, stockbroking and portfolio management with leading global financial institutions. Tim’s previous experience includes working as Private Client Portfolio Manager for Merrill Lynch and Sanlam Private Investments.
Colin Froneman is the course director for all FTS CFA Program courses. Colin structures the courses and offers motivational support throughout the 16-week programs. Colin keeps candidates focused by monitoring their progress and offering encouragement. Colin has held several directorships at listed and non-listed groups, and adds a practical component to the group in general.
Berno Roelofse, CFA, is one of the CFA Level I course instructors at FTS. Berno holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Law degree from the University of Stellenbosch and is a CFA Charterholder. Berno currently works as a Consulting Manager at Monocle Solutions and has multiple years of experience in consulting for banks and other financial institutions.
Tamzin Nel, CFA, has nine years’ experience in financial markets, working with private clients and managing mining rehabilitation funds. Tamzin is a CFA charterholder and has completed a Social Entrepreneurship programme through the University of Oxford. With a keen interest in behavioural finance, social entrepreneurship, impact investing and financial literacy, she loves understanding and working with people to help them achieve their financial goals. Tamzin lectures the Behavioral Finance, Asset Allocation, Private Wealth Management, and Institutional Portfolio Management topics of the Level III CFA Program.
Musi Dowelani, CFA, lectures the Derivatives and Risk Management sections for Level II and Level III of the CFA Program. Musi holds a Masters in Financial Management Sciences obtained from the University of Pretoria; she is also a CFA charterholder. Musi has experience working in Asset management and teaching in various higher education institutions.
After several years in corporate finance, Henry Biddlecombe joined the Anchor Capital investment team in 2015 as an equities analyst, and is currently co-manager of the Anchor Global Technology Fund. He is a regular markets commentator on Classic FM’s “Classic Business” with Michael Avery, CNBC’s “Closing Bell” & BDTV’s “You and Your Money”. Henry is a CFA Charterholder and holds a BCom Investment Management from the University of Johannesburg. Henry lectures the Equity, Alternative Investments and Trading & Performance Evaluation topics of the Level III CFA Program.
Thato Mashigo, CFA, holds a PPE degree from Rhodes University and an Economics (Hons) degree from the University of Cape Town. He is a CFA charterholder and CAIA charterholder. He is also a board member of CFA South Africa, where he chairs the Developing Future Professionals Pillar. Thato currently works as a Portfolio Manager for Sanlam Private Wealth. He has previously worked for Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas and Mvuno Asset Management. He lectures Alternative investments and Portfolio Theory for FTS. He is a regular guest on CNBC Africa, SABC, and 702 Radio. He also writes for Business Day.
Aveshen Pillay, CFA, graduated with an Honours degree in Economics and Statistics and obtained a Masters in Financial Mathematics (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town. He currently works at UBS South Africa and is involved in the sales, structuring, pricing & execution of a suite of derivative products for a local and global client base. Prior to joining UBS, he worked for Standard Bank as a desk risk manager covering exotic derivatives. Aveshen is a CFA charterholder.
Jaco le Roux heads up the administrative side of FTS and is responsible for all correspondence, enrolments, liason with Kaplan Schweser and the smooth flow of information and queries between FTS and existing or potential students. Jaco is a University of Johannesburg graduate and previously headed up his own company for many years dealing with corporates at senior management level. Jaco therefore has extensive experience in administration as well as person to person skills.
